Thursday June 19, 2008 Web 3.5 Arrival or Applets Rocks With Java 6 Update 10 - an 3D, AJAX, Applet Hybrid
I just tested some "old" applets with Firefox 3.0 and JDK 1.6 u10 (on Vista) - and I'm really impressed. I tested the Iris applet again - 3D photo viewing (3 D slideshow), editing, managing, application. It works smoothly, the initialization is relatively fast (about 20 seconds). Iris is a HTML, Ajax, Applet hybrid with remarkable capabilities (drag and drop from desktop, file upload). After start, just use a flickr name like "romainguy". I heard about some problems on Macs (NoClassDefFoundError) with this application - but who cares about it :-). What do you mean? From my perspective it was good. We built in 3 days, from scratch an Enterprise Hooligan Management (or shortly EHM - because of soccers) system with JPA, EJB 3, JSF, Data Binding and different pattern styles. We started (of course), from the very scratch.
